We've had the solution all along.

     I was reading through my March issue of Parent's Magazine and came upon and article titled The 22-Minute Discipline Solution . I figured it was another one of those crazy therapist trying to push another discipline trend. But as I started to read it I realized that they were talking about something that resembled something very familiar.

     "Sunday, Funday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Funday is Monday, specifically evening, when we have our weekly family meeting. After dinner the four of us sit in the living room and hash out whatever is happening at home."

     Sound familiar? Yup, they're literally describing Family Home Evening. I couldn't believe it. The rest of the article talks about what to do during this time, like talk about issues, have fun, ect. It also gives the many advantages of having these "family meetings".

     It was incredible to see how therapists were advising on having something that our Prophets had been instructing us to do forever as a way of keeping our kids and family safe and working properly. They say it's a key to having our family connected and strong.

     ‘When the home functions properly, much has been done to prevent problems from happening,’ the Mormon president told UPI. ‘So much that we do, both in the world and the church, is done to compensate for failures in the home. We have found the Family Home Evening to be a great assistance to parents in fostering meaningful and close family relationships which help the home serve as a sanctuary from evil influences and as a source of strength to each family member.’”

    So there you have it, we've had the key all along, yet sadly we don't always follow the counsel of our prophets. I know in my home we still struggle to have our FHE every week, but when we do we can feel a different spirit in our homes that week. Hopefully more of the world, mormon or not, will start following this counsil to help our homes be more united and stronger so that our children can be taught and nurtured.

Some Card Inspiration

I was in desperate need of making more cards. I had been wanting to send some and didn't have any exept for Christmas ones. So I finally got around to making some and here are what I came up with. Hope it gives you some ideas.

 

Jaime's First Zoo Fieldtrip

Last week was Jaime's first fieldtrip to the Brookfield Zoo and my first fieldtrip as chaperon with him. I was super excited, it never gets old. No matter how many times I've gone to the zoo, knowing this was going to be my first time with my baby boy was exciting. He took pictures with the froggy, my oldest daughter took pictures with it too. I'm going to have to find it.

 

It's hilarious though, because the kids' favorite part of the trip was lunch time and being able to play at the Zoo's playground.

 

They also loved the dinosaurs that were scattered around the park.

Ofcourse being a boy, he couldn't stop climbing on everything.

 And I was so surprised to see how into the map he was. He would take it out and try to read it and tell us where to go next. So cute.

I loved the trip and can't wait to go to more with him.

So Sweet.

This just melted my heart............

 

Mommy Spa

Yesterday was my son's Mother's Day celebration at his class. He's in PreK and he had been so excited about it and had actually kept it a secret. 

 

 

The set up was really cute. The lights were dimmed and nice relaxing music was playing. They had little stations with different things going on. The tables had cute table covers and a plant and lights. Here is an example of it, this was the snack table where we ate our fruit cups with our kiddos.

 

Then came the scary fun part. Our kids were going to do our nails. I thought I had saved myself because he had picked a glittered polish which didn't really show up too much. BUT then he reached at the last minute for a dark purple color, you can imagine how that came out.

Then came the eye make up and lips. For some reason my son kept reaching for the dark colors. He also did my hair with wonderful hair pins!! Don't I look beautiful!!!

We also got a gift in a gift box decorated by them.

 

It was filled with cute stuff that went a long with a book the teacher read to us about Mother's Day. I enjoyed the peanuts and the kisses!

They also gave us a massage and sang us some songs. I'm loving that the celebrations are starting early. Can't wait for Sunday!!!!
